Focus on a Grantee

Basic Needs and Emergency Fund

The Basic Needs and Emergency Fund (BNEF) is directed by the Claire McNulty-Drewes of the Lyons Community Church and is supported by it's own advisory board.

This fund offers to help community members in an urgent situation.  The aid comes through an allocated amount of money that goes toward paying a bill.  The money is never given directly to the individual seeking help, but to the third party in question. The fund has helped support housing and utility related needs, medical emergencies and transportation needs.

For assistance or to apply for a grant from the BNEF, contact Claire at 303.532.6840 or via email.

Claire explains for those requiring assistance, "A little help goes a long way".

Blood Drive

Give Blood, Swab Your Cheek. Save a life!

Bonfils is coming April 8th, from 11 to 3.  Lyons Community Foundation and Bonfils are bringing the van to Lyons.  We need 37 donors to fill the bus.  Give the gift of life!

Not only is this a blood drive, but we just found out that we are now able to make this a bone marrow registration drive too.  Bone marrow matches are extremely rare.  Thus, the need for lots of people to register, and increase the odds.  The registration requires filling out a simple form, and a quick cheek swab (self-administered).

A dear friend of mine Jane, who lives nearby in Evergreen, registered about 10 years ago.  Last year she was called to actually donate some of her marrow for a patient, Fran, from California.  You may have seen them on the news earlier this year when they got to meet.  Jane and Fran will never be the same again because of this special bond.

We need 37 donors to maximize the bus' utilization for the blood donations, and to tell the world that we're Lyons Hearted.  It's important to make an appointment.  To do so, please either visit the registration website - donors.bonfils.org, or call 303-362-2300.

We'll have 50 kits for the cheek swab.  No appointment necessary.  If you can't make the day, I'll have the kits through Wednesday April 11th.

If you have questions about your eligibility to give, the website - bonfils.org has all the information.  If the time slot you want is filled, I'll keep a waiting list.  To be put on the waiting list, or for more general questions, please contact Clark Hodge on 720.29LYONS.  Or clark@lyonscf.org.
