Focus on a Grantee

Basic Needs and Emergency Fund

The Basic Needs and Emergency Fund (BNEF) is directed by the Claire McNulty-Drewes of the Lyons Community Church and is supported by it's own advisory board.

This fund offers to help community members in an urgent situation.  The aid comes through an allocated amount of money that goes toward paying a bill.  The money is never given directly to the individual seeking help, but to the third party in question. The fund has helped support housing and utility related needs, medical emergencies and transportation needs.

For assistance or to apply for a grant from the BNEF, contact Claire at 303.532.6840 or via email.

Claire explains for those requiring assistance, "A little help goes a long way".

Lyons Community Foundation announces its 2011 granting cycle

The most important thing the Lyons Community Foundation does each year is provide grants for worthy organizations and projects in the greater Lyons area. The LCF granting program focuses on the mission to improve the quality of life, build a culture of giving, and encourage positive change for the greater Lyons area. The LCF is starting on its 2011 granting cycle and is looking for community members to serve on the review committee and is encouraging local organizations to apply for grants.

Grant Applications

The Lyons Community Foundation (LCF) promotes philanthropy by responding to the needs of the Lyons community and the expectations of donors. Grant applications are due to LCF by September 8. Electronic submissions are preferred. Applicants are asked to follow the LCF 2011 Grant Guidelines which can be accessed on the LCF website, www.LyonsCF.org. Applicants must use the Grant Application format found on the website.

Eligible organizations are tax exempt, not-for-profit organizations and public agencies. All grant applicants must be located in and/or provide services in the greater Lyons area. Grant amounts range from $500 (minimum) to a maximum of $5,000. Grants will be publicly announced at the LCF annual gala in November.

As a community foundation, LCF is able to award to a broad range of needs, projects and opportunities. This is the forth year for the LCF granting cycle. In 2010, approximately over $36,000 was awarded to sixteen recipients and we anticipate a similar level of giving this year. If you represent an organization in the Lyons area but are new to grant writing, please let us know and we will be glad to assist you with your application. Contact Roger Flynn at (303) 823-5738 or Monique Sawyer-Lang at (303) 823-0120.

Grant Review Committee

LCF welcomes the participation of community members who wish to serve on the Grant Review Committee, which is separate from LCF’s Advisory Board. Help to decide how the grant money is distributed throughout our community. Grant applications to LCF are reviewed by a committee who members represent the greater Lyons community. This is a volunteer position requiring attendance at up to three evening meetings in September and October. If you wish to be considered for the Grants Review Committee, please submit the application form that can be accessed on the LCF website, www.LyonsCF.org.
